125th Anniversary of
The Great Fire of 1892
This year marks the 125th Anniversary
of The Great Fire of 1892. This is the fire that changed the face of downtown
Woodland and caused the only line of duty death in the Woodland Fire
Many years have elapsed since the destructive
conflagration occurred that laid to waste two business blocks and one block of
residences in the fair city of Woodland, and many people are familiar with the
particulars, that to some it may appear to be stale news to remember an account
of the fire at this late date.
There are so many reasons, however, any one of
which is sufficient, why at least a condensed account of the probable cause,
estimated losses and other particulars and other incidents of the greatest
calamity that ever-visited Woodland.
In remembrance of this event that affected us
as a city the Woodland Fire Department is planning a “Remembrance Ceremony”.
This ceremony will be taking place on July 1st,
2017 from 12pm to 5pm in Heritage Plaza. The event will
include antique apparatus, historical demonstrations, tours of the Opera House
and much more.

tile to be on display at the Theatre and Dance Annex lobby.
Just two blocks
from the historic opera house site and in the center of downtown, the Theatre
and Dance Annex is the Woodland Opera House Education Program. Donation deadline is February 28.
