ABOUT THE SHOW
9 to 5, with music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and book by Patricia Resnick, is based on the seminal 1980 hit movie. Set in the late 1970s, this hilarious story of friendship and revenge in the Rolodex era is outrageous, thought-provoking and even a little romantic.
Pushed to the boiling point, three female coworkers concoct a plan to get even with the sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot they call their boss. In a hilarious turn of events, Violet, Judy and Doralee live out their wildest fantasy – giving their boss the boot! While Hart remains "otherwise engaged," the women give their workplace a dream makeover, taking control of the company that had always kept them down. Hey, a girl can scheme, can't she?
CONTENT WARNING: Some scenes depict mature themes, adult language, gender stereotypes, workplace harassment, adult situations, and adult language.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN
18 Available Roles
Violet Newstead
The company’s Head Secretary and Mr. Hart’s Administrative Assistant. She’s a strong single mother who’s extremely competent, intelligent, funny and ready to break out of her role as underling to the boss. Violet stands up for what she believes in and her confidence inspires all of the people around her.
Judy Bernly
Burned by her husband’s affair, Judy enters the office with no experience. She grows from a fragile and meek victim to a woman fully in control of her own life. Judy’s vulnerability and ultimate triumph endears her to audiences.
Doralee Rhodes
We all know who this is. Doralee is a woman who is not afraid to be exactly what she wants to be. She’s strong through judgement and she’s always true to herself. What we’re looking for in casting this role is not someone who has blonde hair and blue eyes. We’re looking for any color of person who exudes warmth and kindness and has a voice that’s sweet and smooth as honey.
Franklin Hart Jr.
The boss. He’s the guy you love to hate. He is unapologetically a sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot. He’s got charisma and charm, but he uses it to undermine and take advantage of the hard working people around him.
Age range: Definitely older than Doralee and probably older than Violet
Roz Keith
The office snitch. Roz is not so secretly in love with Frank. She goes out of her way to cause trouble for others and will do anything to get Frank’s attention. Roz loves rules and will enforce them just to gain an ounce of Frank’s approval.
Joe
He’s just a nice guy. He is quite interested in Violet and helps her in any way he can. Joe is sweet and likeable.
