VIDEO AUDITIONS: Title Role in Billy Elliot
The Woodland Opera House is seeking a strong young performer to take on the title role of Billy Elliot. However, depending on turnout and skill level, we are open to casting two boys to share the role. If double-cast, each performer would appear in six performances. Read on for audition details and submission requirements.

Character Requirements (Billy)
- Age: 10–13
- Gender: Male
- Vocal Range: Typically E3–C5
- Accent: Northern English accent (a dialect coach will be provided; actors must be able to pick up dialect quickly).
- Dance: Strong foundation in ballet, tap, and jazz required; gymnastics/acrobatics a plus.
- Acting: Ability to portray grief, family conflict, and a growing passion for dance with truthful, age-appropriate nuance. Young actors should be comfortable working with adults in scenes.
Note: All adults on the creative team have completed background checks. Any adults cast in the production will also undergo clearance before participation.
Content Warning: While Billy Elliot features children in the cast, the show’s themes are mature and contain adult language. All parents should be aware of the content of the show before submitting their child for consideration. We will present the script as licensed without alterations.
Submission Details
- Edit all parts into one continuous video (songs, dance, and acting).
- Upload as an unlisted YouTube link (or another easily accessible private link).
- Title/filename format: Audition – First Last – Billy Elliot – WOH
- Email your video link, headshot, and résumé to [email protected].
- Complete the audition form.
- Rehearsals are typically Sundays 6-10 pm, Monday-Thursday, 7-10 pm. Please include conflicts from March 2nd through April 19th, 2026. No conflicts will be allowed after that date.

General Submission Notes
- “Electricity” — Please sing from the pickup to measure 26 through measure 48. Click HERE to download the sheet music.
- Please also prepare approximately 16–32 bars of a contrasting musical theatre selection that showcases your vocal range, storytelling, and showmanship.
Dance
- Provide short video samples (each under 30 seconds) demonstrating your abilities in ballet, tap, and jazz.
- Additional footage featuring gymnastics, acrobatics, or contemporary dance is welcome but not required.
- Please ensure your dance footage is filmed in full-body frame so your movement can be clearly seen from head to toe.
Acting
- Perform the linked audition scene.
- Your reader should remain off-camera, and the shot should be framed from the waist up to capture both facial expression and physicality.
- Make sure your space is well-lit and free of background noise or visual distractions.
General Submission Notes
- Begin your video with a slate: your full name, age, and the pieces you’ll be performing.
- Review your videos for clear audio and visuals before submitting.
