ShowBiz Kidz Starts Monday!

6/13/2025

Dear ShowBiz Kidz Families,
We’re so excited to kick off ShowBiz Kidz: Tinseltown Tunes on Monday, June 16th at the Woodland Opera House Dance Annex (520 Court St). Below are some important reminders to ensure the first day runs smoothly for everyone!

Drop-Off Details (Theatre and Dance Annex, June 16 – July 3):
Drop-off is located at the back of the building via Dead Cat Alley. You may not park or idle in the marked parking spots, as this is City of Woodland property. If you need to walk your child in, please use the free public lot on the corner of Court and College, then walk around to the back.

Otherwise, quick drop-offs are fine — just keep traffic moving and do not block any driveways or reserved spaces.
The back door will open ten minutes before each camp session's start time.

Pick-Up Procedures (Theatre and Dance Annex):
  • Morning Group (Ages 8–10): Pick-up will be through the lobby to the Clark Pacific Room (main studio at the front of the building). Parents/guardians will enter through one door, find their child, and exit through the other to keep things flowing.
  • Junior Group (Ages 5–7): Staff will escort Juniors to the front door for pickup.
  • Afternoon Group (Ages 11–17): Pick-up is also at the front entrance.
    • If your student is 12 or older and will leave on their own, they must have a signed Permission to Leave Form, available on the SBK page of our website. Please bring this on the first day.
Late Pickups: After a 10-minute grace period, a $1/minute fee will be charged. Please be prompt so our team can transition between sessions.

Key Dates & Locations:
  • Camp runs Monday, June 16 – Friday, July 13
  • Morning Group Meets M-F 9:00 am to 12:00 pm; Afternoon Group Meets M-F 1:00 to 4:00 pm; Juniors meet M-W-F from 4:30 to 5:30 pm.

Permission to Leave Form (Ages 12 or Older)

6/3/2025

Hello Families,

If you have a student enrolled in SBK this summer and they are 12 years old or older, you may opt to complete a signed Permission to Leave Grounds form.  This form allows us to dismiss teens without a parent present at the front door. So whether they are meeting you in the parking lot, walking to their next destination, heading off with a carpool, or driving off on their own, this tells us that you give us permission to dismiss without a parent present.

Grab your copy here and return to the front desk by Friday, June 20th or email it to the below link.

For those carpooling children or teens of any age, please feel free to email us the names included in the carpool and the parents participating so it makes dismissals easier and more efficient: email us here.

Welcome to the Woodland Opera House’s Education Program Annual Summer Camp, Show Biz Kidz!  This camp has been designed to be appropriate for the beginner through the intermediate actor, singer, dancer with the goal to make each student feel comfortable and relaxed so that they may enjoy the experience. Students will study characterization, vocal technique and projection, theatre dance, theatre terminology, theatre etiquette and professionalism. All students will be given an equal opportunity to shine on the Woodland Opera House stage in our final performances.

When: Monday, June 16th through Sunday, July 13th.

Where:  Classes held at the Woodland Opera House Theatre and Dance Annex, 520 Court Street, Woodland, from Monday, June 16th through Thursday, July 3rd, 2025.

From Monday, July 7th through Friday, July 13th  all rehearsals will be held at the Woodland Opera House - 340 2nd St. from 9:00 am to 12 pm regardless of age group.
Please mark this in your calendars!

Daily Class Schedule:
MORNING GROUP (Ages 8 to 10 years old)    Monday through Friday                    9:00 am to 12:00 pm
AFTERNOON GROUP (Ages 11-17)                   Monday through Friday                    1:00 pm to 4:00 pm
JUNIOR GROUP (Ages 5-7)                                 Monday - Wednesday - Friday          4:30 pm to 5:30 pm

Drop-Off: Is at the back of the building. Please note that that is technically city property! You are not allowed to park in any parking spot nor stop for any length of time. If you suspect needing to wait with your child, please park in the lot adjacent to College Street and walk around. Otherwise, we may lose this privilege with the city.

Pick-up: Is at the front of the building. We will excuse children once their parent/guardian is present. Please be timely with pick-ups as we have a very short break between sessions! Any student 12 and over is able to have a family member sign a PERMISSION TO LEAVE GROUNDS form.  It is attached to this email.  Please return a signed copy on the first day of classes. Only those with a signed PERMISSION TO LEAVE GROUNDS form will be allowed to leave without a parent/guardian present. There is a $1/minute charge for picking up children after a 10-minute grace period.

What to bring:  A water bottle. (Please label water bottles with your name.)  A nutritious snack. No gum or toys are permitted. When we start rehearsals in the theatre, please note that only water is permitted.

What to wear to class: Comfortable clothes that allow free movement and dance shoes or flexible soled canvas sneakers. No jeans, flip-flops or sandals. Reminder notes may go home with your child if they do not arrive dressed safely or appropriately for their classes/rehearsals.

Group assignments are determined strictly by birthdate and cannot be changed. We understand that being in a different group from a friend can be disappointing, but our age-based grouping ensures that activities and instruction are developmentally appropriate and balanced for all students. Thank you for understanding and helping us maintain consistency for everyone involved.

Note: Parents are asked not to stay and watch as it can be a distraction for the children.  Students are not allowed to bring friends to class.

Costumes:  The opera house will supply the cast with a Show Biz Kidz Performance T-shirt. You will need to provide solid black pants, long black socks, and black jazz or black ballet shoes for the performances.
A detailed costume sheet will be sent at the end of the 2nd week of classes.

Performances: Friday, July 11th at 7 pm, Saturday, the 12th and Sunday, the 13th at 2 pm.
Actors will arrive 45  minutes before show time. All performances are mandatory.

Attendance: Consistent attendance is critical for success in the program. Absences will affect the student’s ability to perform any song learned on that day.  Teachers will decide if a child will be dropped from performing a song due to absences or behavior.

Tickets: We will have a pre-sale beginning on Tuesday, June 24th, 2025 for all ShowBiz Kidz families. More information will be released soon.

We look forward to seeing you on June 16th.
